The Executive MBA (Master of Business Administration) is aimed at current or aspiring managers, and builds on a strong ethos of helping managers solve real problems. This part time MBA will enable you to build the skills and vision required in today’s business environment. Whether you work in a public or private sector organisation, you will learn how to integrate cutting edge research and practice, across all key business areas to achieve business transformation.

The Executive MBA is a challenging course, designed to expose you to all areas of business through a diverse range of modules. You will study core areas of business with an emphasis on the strategic nature of decision making.

A critical part of the University of South Wales’ EMBA is exploring how people impact on business thinking, and the systems that can enhance this fundamental part of an organisation. The University is also host to a vibrant, multicultural environment that provides an excellent opportunity for you to gain an international perspective to business, and different cultures and practices.

You will study the following modules:

Year 1

  • Leadership & Management Theories – 20 credits
  • Strategic Financial Management – 20 credits
  • Strategic Operations Management – 20 credits
  • Strategic Marketing – 20 credits

Year 2

  • Strategic Analysis Tools & Techniques – 20 credits
  • Coaching For Executive Leadership – 20 credits
  • Research Methods (This forms part of the Business Research Project, the assessment is the Project Proposal (5%)

Year 3

  • Business Research Project – The project consists of a Proposal (5%) – already completed at the end of Year 2. In addition a Presentation (10%) and a Written Project of 18,000 words (45%) – 60 credits

Academic route to CIPS Chartered Status
CIPS have accredited our Executive MBA as an academic route to Chartered Status. The University of South Wales is one of only a few Universities in the UK who can provide a CIPS Academic route to achieving the new status of Chartered Procurement and Supply Professional.

To obtain CIPS Chartered Status you will study all of the above modules with the exception of the following:

  • Year 1 – You must study ‘Sustainable Supply Chain Management’ (20 credits) in place of the ‘Strategic Marketing’ module.
  • Year 3 – The ‘Business Research Project’ must be on a procurement and supply related theme.
  • All units must be successfully passed.

Taught sessions are delivered by passionate and knowledgeable tutors, in addition to self-guided study, lectures, seminars, group work and exercises. You will have the opportunity to strategically analyse organisations, deliver presentations, and prepare marketing and business plans.

You are encouraged to attend the many guest lectures organised by the School of Business, to broaden your understanding of important subject areas.

Attendance is either one of the following:*

2 evenings per week (currently Wednesday and Thursday evenings, 6pm-9pm)
1 day/afternoon per week (currently Thursdays, 2pm-8.30pm)


You will be assessed through written assignments, presentations and project work. The EMBA involves the completion of a significant business research project, developing your communication and consulting skills.


On graduation, this award also gives you membership of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).Studying the EMBA at the University of South Wales also gives you links to the professional body.

Candidates will be required to have:

  • A minimum second class honours degree, or
  • Relevant managerial experience
  • A recognised international equivalent qualification

For the academic route to CIPS Chartered Status, candidates will also be required to have:

  • MCIPS or FCIPS for a minimum of 3 years
  • A current CIPS membership subscription
  • Successfully completed the CIPS Ethics Test within the last 12 months

Full-time fees are per year. Part-time fees are per 20 credits. Once enrolled, the fee will remain at the same rate throughout the duration of your study on this course.

Additional Costs

Students have access to a wide range of resources including textbooks, publications, and computers in the University’s library and via online resources. In most cases they are more than sufficient to complete a course of study. Where there are additional costs, either obligatory or optional, these are detailed below. Of course students may choose to purchase their own additional personal resources/tools over and above those listed to support their studies at their own expense. All stationery and printing costs are at a student’s own expense.
