If you don’t quite have the right qualifications to start our three year BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management degree you could opt to start your studies with a foundation year.
The extra year is intended to give you the best possible preparation for success on the degree. You’ll study introductory modules relevant to the degree course whilst developing key skills for academic study. Successful completion of the introductory foundation year will allow you to progress onto the degree course.
Studying this RICS-accredited Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management degree, you will learn skills and competencies that are directly relevant to industry practice and standards.
You will gain the skills to manage the range of tasks involved in a construction project, learn how to take responsibility for financial planning and management, and be able to overcome challenges associated with building costs.
By the time you graduate from the Quantity Surveying degree, you will have the skills and qualifications for a rewarding and well-paid career.
Full-time students spend 12-15 hours each week in lectures, seminars and tutorials, usually over two to three full days. You will spend time working on presentations, assignments, reading and problem-solving exercises.
Your Quantity Surveying degree here won’t confine you to a classroom. We don’t believe you can learn vital skills like analytical decision making and problem solving by just reading about them. That’s why we offer practical activities that help you understand and apply the theory you learn in lectures. Plus you’ll have the chance to go on site visits to local companies.
Assessment is through a mixture of coursework and examinations.
Our Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). When you graduate, you'll have the skills and qualifications for a successful career in quantity surveying and commercial management, and be able to work towards corporate membership of the RICS. The Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management course is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors, giving you further recognition for the skills you will develop during your studies.
We recommend you spend a year working in the construction industry as part of your Quantity Surveying degree. During this ‘sandwich’ year, you’ll get hands-on experience that will make you a more attractive candidate to employers and will inform your studies in your final year.
For added experience, you’ll use industry-standard facilities on campus. These include computing laboratories with engineering software such as Revit, ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, Autodesk QTO, CostX, Synchro, and Navisworks.
