Fashion student produces own magazine for final project

Will Norton studies BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing and Retail Design and created his own magazine as part of his final year major project.

"By creating a magazine I was able to include the skills I have gained and built upon during the course so far. I researched and wrote articles, designed the look and layout, and created a website for the magazine; which I entitled ‘Shine’.

As part of my project I wanted to create a set of editorial images to artistically display and market garments and accessories to the reader. I orchestrated the shoot myself from the inception of themes, styling and grooming looks, to actually shooting the images myself.

The project also allowed me to collaborate and connect with other creatives, from my local photography team: Hair by Sassoon Cardiff, Makeup by Charlotte Bellham (who studies BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion) and models all based in and around Cardiff; to interviewing Berlin based artist Sven Ballenthin.

The project took 3 months and I thoroughly enjoyed creating something that was 100% mine, that I could be proud of.

I have really enjoyed studying Fashion Marketing and Retail design. We have amazing lecturers and our little FMRD cohort get on very well; we have all made great friends while learning. I’m now looking to study MA Fashion Retail following graduation.

I would like to give a special shout-out to our invaluable Course Leader, Jemma Oeppen-Hill, who really is an excellent lecturer and all around great person. She has taught us so much and been there for us throughout the entire course. Jemma has become not only a lecturer, but a friend to us all."
