BA (Hons) English and History

An English and History degree gives you an appreciation of how literature has reflected changes in culture and society. You will also gain knowledge and understanding of major historical trends in early modern and contemporary history.

By studying two topical, challenging and absorbing disciplines, you’ll not only broaden your knowledge base but also expand the range of career paths open to you upon graduation. The key skills you’ll develop throughout the course, including the ability to research effectively and think critically, are highly valued by employers, whichever career you decide to pursue.

What you will study

You will study a mix of English and History modules throughout the course, dividing your time equally between the two disciplines.

Year One

  • Reading/Writing Women
  • Language and Society
  • Writing Media
  • The Writers Toolkit
  • Language Awareness Grammar (TESOL)

History modules:
