Built on the principles of ‘real world learning’, this is the only hotel and hospitality management degree in the UK that is run in direct partnership with a five-star hotel, The Celtic Manor Resort. Our ground-breaking partnership with the Celtic Manor Resort and Welsh Rarebits aims to produce the next generation of hotel and hospitality managers.
Through a combination of classroom-based learning and practical experience, you’ll gain a detailed understanding of every aspect of the hotel business, as well as exposure to the workings of a five-star venue. You will have the opportunity to develop practical and professional skills from the ground up. This includes exposure to industry experts from all areas of the hotel and hospitality industry, through on-job training, interactive workshops and individual coaching sessions. This practical learning is underpinned by theory, so you will also learn about concepts of hospitality operations and management at USW Newport.
The first year focuses on the fundamentals of hotel business, sustainable food and beverage management, and work and organisational behaviour.
The second year will prepare you for managing the overall operations of a hospitality business eﬀectively. As well as spending a significant amount of time working in one of our partner hotels, your studies will cover room division management, revenue management and digital marketing for hotels.
During the third year, you will learn about sustainable hotel operations, managing diversity, and global trends. In addition to further work placement opportunities, you will have the option to pursue a live, consultancy project.
Please note that work-based learning modules will include some evening and weekend shifts.

The hotel and hospitality management degree course includes a significant number of work-based learning modules, meaning students will be required to work evenings and weekends, as well as potentially staying away from home as part of the 10-week block placement. Assessment methods replicate activities required in the workplace. You will also be assessed using a variety of methods, including essays, group work, presentations and online applications. There is only one exam throughout the course, in the third year.

The entry criteria below shows the qualification range within which the University will make offers. Most offers we make are at the top of the range, but we take all aspects of an application into consideration and applicants receive a personalised offer. Combinations of qualifications are acceptable and other qualifications not listed here, together with relevant service sector work experience, may also be acceptable.
BCC - CDD (this is equivalent to 104-80 UCAS tariff points).
Pass the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate Diploma with Grade C/D in the Skills Challenge Certificate and BC - CD at A Level (this is equivalent to 104-80 UCAS tariff points).
BTEC Extended Diploma Distinction Merit Merit - Merit Merit Pass (this is equivalent to 112-80 UCAS tariff points).
Pass the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum of 80 UCAS tariff points from Higher Levels.
Pass the Access to HE Diploma and obtain a minimum of 80 UCAS tariff points.
GCSEs: The University normally requires a minimum 5 GCSEs including Mathematics/Numeracy and English at Grade C or Grade 4 or above, or their equivalent, but consideration is given to individual circumstances.

Full-time fees are per year. Part-time fees are per 20 credits. Once enrolled, the fee will remain at the same rate throughout the duration of your study on this course.
Students have access to a wide range of resources including textbooks, publications, and computers in the University’s library and via online resources. In most cases they are more than sufficient to complete a course of study. Where there are additional costs, either obligatory or optional, these are detailed below. Of course students may choose to purchase their own additional personal resources/tools over and above those listed to support their studies at their own expense. All stationery and printing costs are at a student’s own expense.
|Travel costs *||£1200||
Students will be required to fund their own travel costs to and from their place of work, usually the Celtic Manor Resort. Second year students will also undertake a non-local work placement with Welsh Rarebits, and will be required to cover any travel costs arising as a result.
|Kit and equipment: Uniform *||£200||
Students will need to contribute £200 to the cost of their uniform that they will be wearing during their time at the Celtic Manor Resort. The uniform can be worn for all three years of the course, so the cost is a one-off payment.

You’ll also graduate with key skills that employers in any sector will value, such as communication, reporting and presentations, as well as a significant amount of work experience on your CV.
